Hello guys.. Today, i was at a garage sale, where a guy who sold all kinds of interesting stuff, was selling these square "coins" I think he said it was some old chinese coins, but whenever i try to find them on google, i just get flooded with those normal coins with a square in the middle.. Does anyone know some history about these? maybe have a name for them? thanks
They look like silver ingots with images of different Chinese coins on one side and the purity on the other. Not 100% sure what the characters are. The ones near 9960 are not the character for silver (银) though.
i did alot more searching, and now i finally ended up with some "information".. i ended up finding out that if you google "miao silver bar", there is alot of bars that looks like these ones.. But 95% of the images are from ebay, where people are selling these bars.. i looked through alot of the sellers item descriptions, and finally, i found one seller, who had some more info about the item.. this is what it said: I'm glad to introduce this , the Miao silver is not as the 925 sterling silver, the Miao silver is one especial silver from China ancient Dynasty Ethnic Tribal , You can see the exterior of it is not very refined ,but which is the born texture .People who possess it,can have lucky healthy and happyness . Because the Miao silver can bring many good thing for the people . So my guess is that its just some massproduced bars from china, that they are trying to sell as if it was silver, but infact its "miao silver", which i have a feeling most likely is just a bunch of blended metals that have the appereance of silver. I guess its kinda legal? cause if "nordic gold" is a thing, then i guess they are allowed to call it miao silver..
I don't think it's Chinese money but if could be Chinese silver in an ingot firm. It's interesting and I would have bought them at the right price myself. Wait for others with more knowledge in this area to chime in. Welcome to CT.
I believe there are genuine examples of such trials when the mint was first establish. (in Nanking? Perhaps around 1940s? I have to look it up) These are to show that the mint is capable of striking precious metal with proper weight and assay. Only issue is these are excessively rare - this goes easily in the four - five figure mark.
So there is both fake and real ones or what? cause there is alot of these on ebay and 1 costs 7 dollars
None are genuine. They do appear at auction houses once in a blue moon - be prepared to pay an arm or leg.
