Nice coin. Just as a note, 50 drachmes = 0.16 USD at the exact time it switched to the euro, with a rate of 340.75 drachmes to 1 euro (2001). The drachma was fluctuating very very much over its history. Greece joined the Bretton Woods system in 1953 and the drachma was worth around 30 drachmes to 1 dollar, so that coin would be worth around 1.70 dollars. This was all the way until after the Greek junta in 1974, where the Greek "economic miracle" (as they call it) ended. After that it got a little bit less worth, around 40 drachmes to 1 dollar, it stayed stable around that number. The funny thing is, that the moment Greece joined the European Union in 1981, the drachma became much and much less worth. In 1980 it was still ~38 drachmes to 1 dollar, in 1982 it was already ~72 drachmes to 1 dollar. And finally, when this coin got minted in 1986, it was already ~150 drachmes to 1 dollar. So, at the time, the purchasing power of that coin was around 0.33 USD.

Sorry, a little bit off topic, but I just wanted to share the story behind the "modern'' drachma :)

My favorite Provincial is this Alexandrian Tetradrachm of Julia Domna dated year 20 (LK - Sept 211 to Aug 212 showing Caracalla an Geta shaking hands. I believe this is the only type showing the two together struck after the death of Septimius Severus before Geta was murdered in December, 211. If you know this to be incorrect, please show me the coin.

@Pavlos 0.16 USD equals 16 cents US, just another way of writing it down.

@Andres2 I think you misunderstood my whole writeup, all I wanted to say is that the coin was at the time it got minted, not worth 16 cents US. You based it on the rates of 2001.
