Found a strap of 1995 $2 Star Notes

Sorry I don't have a pic, but I picked up my usual bundle of $2's today. First thing I notice is that they are brand new, the plastic shrinkwrap is missing, but the BEP straps seem to be unopened along with the white paper band that goes around the entire bundle.

I see the first note and notice that the center two digits are the same, so I secretly shout Woohoo to myself as I believe I have a radar note in the bundle. Well, the teller passes the bundle to me and I see that while the first strap is series 2003, the second strap starts with an F in the serial. So all the way out to my vehicle, I'm thinking to myself, Crap, someone just put together a bunch of new straps and shipped them to my bank.

Well, in my vehicle, I rip off the White strap and to my surprise, the second strap was a full strap of 1995 $2 Star notes, consecutively numbered. Even better, the radar note was also in the bundle. So now I'm on cloud nine trying to decide if I keep the strap, sell it, or what. While there may be some GEM UNC notes in the strap, the strap itself is definitely not GEM. The bundle looks like it's been tossed around a few times without the protective shrinkwrap.

What's really awesome is this comes on the tail of me having found 200+ silver halves this week while CRHing. About half of those were a healthy mix of Walkers, Franklins, and 1964's. I filled in two empty spots in the Walker book and also found a 1998S 90%Ag proof.

I think I'm ready to buy a Lottery Ticket on my way home.

WOW, you are on a serious roll (LOL - pardon the pun)- The silver is definitely unbelievable but the star 2's would make me pretttttty darn happy - with a radar to boot! Man - I would buy that lottery ticket - it comes in threes and that would be the icing and the cake!!!

Congrats - I'm jealous! Pictures of that radar please...

You guys twisted my arm, I went grabbed them so I can scan them (actually I just wanted to look at them again).

It still stings to see the damage to the corners on that strap.

Even with the small amount of damage, I would think they would be worth more than face - especially as a strap.

    Great find on the Radar!

    Thanks for sharing!!!

Interesting. It's normal for the BEP to have used leftover 1995 $2 stars as replacements during the next printing of the denomination, which was the 2003 series. But I wouldn't have expected such low serials to appear there; I'd've expected serials from the last 1995 $2 star run, F032..* and higher. I wonder what's going on here....

If you look closely in the pic, you can see the wear and tear on the green BEP strap. The other 9 straps looked pristine (even though the corners of the notes show that the bundle had been tossed around abit).

This strap has seen a fair amount of handling that was not caused by me or is seen on the 9 other straps in the bundle. As easily as the straps come apart, I'm surprised this strap stayed together for the amount of wear and tear shown on the strap and the corners of the top notes.

Not sure about "plain" F District Stars, but the '95 Millennium notes avg $40-$60 ea. I would imagine these would go for a bit less. Of course, if you're interested in parting with them, I have a lovely bridge that I'd be willing trade for them. It spans Manhattan and Kings Co, NY. Think of the toll revenue! :D

Excellent Haul!! Wish I had half that kind of luck :)

I think when all 100 notes are stars they are wrapped in special straps, ones with stripes.

maybe, but i have yet to see any in person :( only on CT or in print or auction site. I need to just out right ask if they have any full straps of star notes lol but i am so afraid of teching them too much where they keep it all for themselves :D

i know at my branch in the 2 years i have been there i have yet to see a full strap of star notes. so the chances of a bank having them and knowing what they are, are probably very low
