Is there anything fishy about it at all?

    Does it seem "kosher"?

    Not a fake or anything?

    I have untrained eyes.

you can check the ngc #,it looks fine,if you don't have a trained eye you should not be buying on your own,you should find a trusted dealer or you are bound to get burned.

So, are you saying you already commited to buying it? If so, it's a little late for second opinions and you're stuck following through. To me, it looks ok, though the pica are a bit fuzzy.

What, you don't trust a professional grader but you're willing to trust people on a forum looking at pictures?

FWIW, the 1910 isn't even listed with the rest of the half eagles in my US gold conterfeit guide. Maybe there's aren't many known counterfiets from that year? I'd say you're more than likely fine.

My first thought upon seeing the pics was "where's the luster" -- but that's more of a question on the coin itself and not the price or its authenticity?

Do you have a link to the auction? If you're not comfortable posting it, send me a PM, and I'd be happy to share my opinion, FWIW...Mike

Vess, There have been a rash of counterfeit slabs for PCGS and NGC on the bay these days, and both services have issued warnings. OP does not mention where the coin or seller is located. I do agree it is a bit late to ask if a commitment to purchase has been made.

Oh. Good to know. Is there a way of looking up the serial numbers?

This is professionally graded, I do not see a reason why this should not be authentic.

because professionaly graded coins are appearing in faked slabs with faked coins.

Well I understand slabs are also faked.

The reason why I wasn't sure was that I saw it going for so low with only a few min left, so I snapped it up.

It was the fact that it went for so low that I thought that others had seen something else about it and decided they'd better stay away.

Also no coin dealers were I live, and the nearest ones (possibly in London) to me certainly wouldn't cover my preferred types.

I've been noticing many gold coins only going for gold value prices (Ebay Europe) or just above so the better gold coins can be usually had for a good price and this one is a better gold coin.

    Ribbit :)

you titled this: "Before I send payment for this gold eagle I was after second opinions... "

Shouldn't you have asked for opinions before bidding?

Now you bid, and won the piece.

Remember, an auction is a contract.

    eddyk New-mismatist

    Well, yeah.

but if you bid for something and later found out it was a fake, would you still pay for it?

I happened upon this item with only 14 minutes left and thought it was too good to not have a crack at it.

The item however was paid for soon after reading the first set of replies.
