Hi... Jesse here from Colorado Springs. Ive run across this weird quarter that appears to give Washington a double eye. I'm very new to coin collecting (this is only my second post...) and I was mistaken about an error earlier, so I am asking for feedback on this before I get all excited!! Lol... I have taken a few pics in different lights and backgrounds and hope they are clear enough to give you more experienced collectors an idea of what I am looking at. Thanks for your time and all feedback is welcomed....
I can see where you think you see it on the 'shinny coin' pictures, but it is probably just PMD. It took a hit that makes it look that way.
Welcome to CT, Jesse. I agree with others that the “double eye” is just PMD. A real “double eye” can be found in double or triple struck, when the strikes are positioned just right. I do have one in my collection.
You have a "double struck" coin or do you mean it is a "hub doubled" coin? There is a difference! Chris
You are right that I should be clearer on the terms, Chris. I have a triple struck state quarter that the strikes are positioned just right to show the “double eye” effect. Don’t have the pic in my iPhone to attach right away, but it is in one of my CT media folders.
Hi... thanks for taking the time to answer my question about what I am seeing... thanks especially for mentioning your pics you have stored in your media files!! I was able to look at those pics and see what you were talking about and what a double struck and even a triple struck coin looks like.... I have always been a visual learner so your examples helped immensely. Enjoy your weekend and thanks again!
