I could not decide on a grade for the toned one. The image is really out of focus. I'll bet it looks great in hand.

Having more than one coin in a thread like this gets crazy.
I believe the first coin was held back a grade because of the reverse. The obverse look like a 66 if the luster on both sides of the coin are there.

 

I know these two Mercs are different date/mm, but they are graded the same, yet one has a GOLD CAC sticker. Now I ask, which one of these two coins has cleaner surfaces?

The only education that this coin is providing is that PCGS is as guilty of undergrading as they are overgrading.

I really don't know what you are looking at, the coin looks to have blazing luster to my eyes.

My “educational” point with this coin is that a coin can be nicer than what the slab says, and such coins are allowed to be worth more than what the slab says it’s worth. That’s the only way I can really justify having $60-70 in this coin after the initial price and certification fees. And you all agree.

Fair. It does not have the drippy semi-PL luster I like at the 67 and above levels. I had this at 66 shot 67 when I sent it in due to the cleanliness of the fields. 65 was overly harsh IMO.

 

I see zero “blazing luster” here. But anyway, I was done with this thread when I got told giving it a 66FB and saying it lacks luster means I must have an agenda. Please stop tagging me. I have better things to do with my life than quibble over how much luster an incredibly common coin has. This coin should be a learning point that WE don’t always get it right either. TPGs aren’t guilty of anything but being human. Time to move on.

 

Assigning a grade of MS66 FB and calling it lack luster are incongruent. Are you aware that the person who accused you of having an agenda, assigned the exact same grade you did?

Btw, if you wanna move on, then move on and unsubscribe from the thread, but don’t ask us not to take issue with what you have already written.

 

I have unsubscribed 3 times now. For a coin so clean, I find it dull. Especially the reverse. That is my opinion. I guessed it would have graded 66FB. 65FB doesn’t bother me, but I’m not emotionally invested into the coin. It’s clear we all disagree here. You’ve taken issue with my opinion. I note your disagreement and I move on. What could you possibly accomplish by continuing to argue with me? Drop it.
