Because you'd have to be on some kind of 'pill' to buy this coin at that price (ebay).....

Exactly! :D I wonder if it was possibly used as an advertising piece like for Doan's Pills or something? I wonder if Bruce @BRandM knows anything about this coin? ;)

No, I don't know anything about this specific coin, but I've never seen one that could be considered an advertisement. I think they're made by people who need something constructive to do. They're humorous in their own way though.

A standard Potty Dollar usually sells for around $300, give or take a few dollars. The normal one is Lady Liberty sitting on a chamber pot. They are very collectible and with advertisements or one out of the usual, the price can increase easily.

I suppose you have to be an aficionado of such a coin. Frankly, I'd spend my money on something more worthwhile, but that's a collectors humble opinion. You wanna see woman sitting on a chamber pot, then have at it.......

Indecent and immodest for Lady Liberty yes indeed. There are a number of these chamber pot Liberty Seated Silver Dollars out there. Her throne or seat had been recarved to look like a toilet. Nothing shows but still indecent especially considering who the woman is.

I need to spend some time researching these. They were made long before Hobo Nickels so it prove to be interesting.

It's not that we WANT to see a lady on a chamberpot, it comes from the same kind of interest we may have in the original hobo nickels. They were a form of "folk art" and there can be an appreciation in the talent of the artwork. Some are very crude, some show some real craftsmanship. As with the original hobo nickels these were typically done by hand with crude tools and a well done one represents some real talent.

Quite right, and you and I both agree with talent exhibited by the 'carver. I've seen many 'Hobo's' that were created by talented artists, with a variety C'est Magnifique, but I've never seen any talent regarding these trade Dollars. It's the same thing over and over again. Just an observer's humble opinion.......

Agreed, Ken, never saw one that was well done either.

I don’t see what’s great about this defaced coin.
Trade dollars are hard to come by as it is, and someone carves it up in such a manner.
Then again, “to each his own”.

Same subject, but I HAVE seen pieces that were well and skillfully done

At the time the carvings were done they were NOT hard to come by and they could be had for maybe 80 cents apiece, possibly less.

I have a magnetic fake I was considering defacing like this.
