hey guys. I know the pics are a wee bit small and angled, but I'm wondering what your opinions are on grade and value of this one. And how much do you think I paid for this busty?
Looks XF-45/AU-50ish might fetch $250 or less depending on the market... Don't worry about the weak banner, it's simply lack of metal flow. Ben
Wow! Well that is good to hear! Either I made out really good on this deal, or the market suddenly went down the drain. I havent received the coin yet, but hopefully it is as nice in hand as it is in the pics. It will be a great addition to my type set. Here is the link to my purchase. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=350050772606&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=022 The seller has good feedback and a return policy, so I think I'm good to go. hmm......do coins really drop that much in a short amount of time? like to 30% of their original value? I've been looking at some of these 1834 coins on ebay that have recently sold, and they are all over the map. There are some that look as good as this one that sold for $90, and ones that have much more wear for over $200. I know that ebay isnt a reliable "price guide", but it seems like there is a huge discrepancy in what people are willing to pay for this coin. Is there a difference in the value of varieties?
I'd like to convince myself that I am at least "somewhat" making up for my purchase of that fraudulent $3 gold piece that set me back $600...:kewl:
Not ms-63 1927 peace dollars, they have been on the climb. Nice CBH, hope it liiks good. From the detail I might place it in the ef-45 range.
surprised i am flabbergasted the market started going down as soon as i bought a coin. its not a good sign
You're right, it's not a good sign. But the thing that is not a good sign is that you apparently don't know much about the coins you are buying. You are making high dollar purchases without understanding the market for these coins and also without knowing very much about the coins themselves. That is the bad sign. For example, are you aware that there have been approx 30,000 of these coins graded and slabbed at AU50 and above. Finding them in high grades is not hard to do, in fact it's quite easy. There are of course exceptions for dates/mints and certain varieties. But as a general rule, what I am saying is quite true. I guess what I am trying to say spock is that you need to do more studying and thinking before acting.
The coin could be XF or AU, BUT it could also be cleaned - there is no way to tell from those images. By the way, I constantly try to buy nice AU through MS66 NGC and PCGS Capped Bust Halves and have seen no drop in prices. Trying to determine values/prices, sight-unseen and based upon uncertified examples that sell on Ebay won't work.
Just remeber every coin that falls in prices DOES jump right back up. That's where the term TREND comes from. Right now the biggest trend coins are small cents in a couple of years Capped busts will shoot right back up to high prices if not much higher prices. The trick to collecting coin's is taking your time.
