Hi there. Kind of starting to rely on you guys for your opinions when selling the coins from my father's collection. Can anyone tell me if 1625 each is fair price for a 1945 and 1947 Peso? The offer was given on a day that gold was at 1420.
https://www.providentmetals.com https://www.jmbullion.com https://www.jmbullion.com/50-peso-mexican-gold-coin-vy/ See what they are selling your coins for and base whether you think the offer you receive is acceptable. I am assuming you are talking about a Mexican Gold 50 Peso coin? These contain 1.2 ounces of gold, so multiply that by the spot value of gold on the day you intend to sell. $1625 each is not a fair offer. You should expect at least $75 more than that.
1945 Mexico 50 peso gold coin. .900 gold, weight- 1.20 oz or 37.5 grams. over 1 ounce. catalog number KM#481. A beautiful gold coin. Others here can tell your the approximate current value. The melt value + you have to consider the buyer needs to make money on your coin when you go to sell it so figure in 10-20% less than the melt value. $1,420 is to low in my opinion. If you do the math by grams it equals out to $1,736.25 from $1,440 an ounce. So maybe subtract 15-20% from $1,736.25 ??? My guess would be in the $1,690-1,700 range. wait for more opinions....
The restrikes after the middle of 1947 are worth gold value circulated, but uncirculated do have a collector value, at least among collectors on the southern border. The top row of coins are original, the bottom row are re strikes, Jim Jim
For your coin as shown, I would say that1650- 1700 would be a fair deal for both parties, but the question is what the parties feel The buyer would like the 1625 . the seller would prefer 1725. If one or the other is desperate for cash, they will lose out. Gold is about 1440 /oz x 1.2= ~ 1728. And no one knows what the price will be in 1 week so the dealer currently feels justified. PM are not like a 55/55 DDO-001 Cent which changes little, where as gold may be $200 more and ounce or $200 less in a month. Good Luck , Jim
Jmbullion is paying $1725 each for your coins right now. Please follow my links in my first reply to you. They offer more than a local shop because you have to pay to ship it securely to them. So as I said in my first reply: expect at least $75 more than your $1625 offer. I think you should expect close to $1700 each locally. But if I were you I'd accept $1675 at the lowest.
