True enough. I suppose to be fair I should have gone to 20 or 30 different branches of NCB before making a judgement about the company as a whole. It just surprised me to find such rudeness in an area of the country where being polite is the rule, even when giving someone the brush off. Out on the east coast there's not even lip service given to being polite
No need to goto 20-30 branches. You goto the one that you will use and that's the only one that matters. Who cares of the one 20 miles down the road is awesome if the one next to your house sucks.
I think you misunderstood my point. I agree with you fully to find a bank you like and stuff the rest. I was trying to explain that I used bad scientific method when I came to the conclusion that NCB sucked. Unfortunately, the Bank of Americas in my area where I do my general banking do not get new coinage from the Fed or a depot. They opt for 'recycled' coinage. I imagine the handling charges from the coin depot are less expensive for recycled coins. If you've ever done banking on the East Coast you'll understand when I say that once you find a bank that is minimally sucky in most respects you stick with it....even if you can't get fresh rolls of coins. I do have to say my local branch of BOA went out on a 'limb' and ordered some $2 for me. I got a couple of straps of fresh '95, 2003 and 2003A $2 from them. Now how do I convince the teller not to pull the bills out of the BEP strap and run them through her counter before handing them over? I'll trust the BEP even if they short me a note just to get the crisp CU bills
If they know you well enough and you buy the entire strap, it shouldn't be too hard, provided they didn't break the straps and verify them when they received them (many banks do this as a matter of procedure). This works for me with coins. I tell them that I know they were verified once. I'll take them as is, as counting them can only result in two outcomes. 1. They feel good knowing they gave me the correct amount 2. The count is off and they have to do the paperwork to document it and adjust against the misc. fund to balance their vault/drawer. Most tellers who know me realize they can always avoid outcome 2 with me, but some still feel the need to count everything out.
every thing veries from teller to teller. at the same bank when i return a case of coins most of the time the just ask how many rolls i kept. but once in a while they count the rolls and once the un wrapped the rolls and counted the nickels.. they couldn't beleve that the amount was ok . the banks that i deal with just passes the rolls on to who ever needs them. wvrick
