There is a thread going about Gaithersburg Coin Exchange and I have a question about another Maryland dealer. Have any of you Maryland folks bought coins from Golden Eagle Coins in Laurel, either in person or on line? What are your thoughts on them?
Metro Coin and Currency in Jessup (US1 and 175 across from the trooper barracks). 2 brothers took over the business from their father. nice guys and some decent coins. -Steve
I've had some dealings with "Coins of the Realm" in Rockville. Very professional group. My favorite dealer is Angel Dee's (Andy & Alynne Skrabalak) in Woodbridge, VA. Not a "brick and mortar" type but does have a website. Their specialty is upper end small cents, but they go to all the major shows, so they find a LOT of other stuff for me from my wantlist. Got most of my typeset through them. Last coin I got from him was a PCGS MS-66BN 1909-S IHC. But I also deal with coin businesses at shows where I can comparison shop. It'll be going to the show in Chantilly, VA, this weekend (25-27 Apr.)
I was at Golden Eagle Coins just yesterday to pick up some currency sleeves and pages. It was my first time at their store. The store was cluttered but the people were very nice. They were somewhat unorganized but they had many different collectables for sale; dolls, plates, photos, sports memorabilia, you name it. Problem was I didn’t see many coins, some proof sets, but mostly coin supplies like old Whitman coin folders. But like I said above, it was my first time at their store. All in all it was a pleasant experience. My favorite coin store is Bonanza Coins in Silver Spring. Julian Leidman is the nicest, most friendly & professional coin expert that I have met. (I know that if & when I meet any of my CT friends, you will be in that category also!). Julian likes to talk about coins and if you don’t purchase anything, that’s just fine with him. He is also at all of the major coin shows in the country. Folks like Julian give me hope that my hobby will continue to be honorable. Jack
He's WELL known in numismatics. I remember him from back in the '80s (and possibly even the '70s.) He's just always there. Definitely a numismatic treasure.
