You were number 6 on the list?
If you are interested, I can send you an LRB that I have. It isn't nearly as nice as @Sallent's Trajan but it won't be a complete piece of junk either :) Something identifiable and interesting (at least to me!) Hit me up via PM if you are interested.

May I suggest those in this situation with these fears consider the fact that several regular contributors here sell coins and are a bit less likely to treat you poorly than the average unknown seller. John Anthony and Severus Alexander run periodic auctions including beginner level coins. Ken Dorney is a full service dealer and has been considered trustworthy for half of his life (I did not become aware of him until a couple decades ago but I suspect he was a good kid, too). Valentinian has been a friend and coin source for a similar period. I know there are others and those who read a lot of posts will know whom they want to contact and who is to be avoided. You might even get guidance from them as to where/what to start.

I regret the current trend for new collectors jumping into the deep end and buying EF 12 Caesars sets as a first purchase. There is nothing wrong with starting with a slightly worn Trajan and working your way gradually from the kiddie pool to the 10 meter platform. Starting out buying blindly is altogether unnecessary and --- to use a bad word --- stupid. If you must buy 12 Caesars gold, hire a professional to represent you. If you find beauty in the Trajan, use the resources here on CT (including Conversations). I am not interested in hearing questions from members whose status should read 'lurker' because they are hard to tell from the
'real loser' crowd. Regular participants like most the names on the entry list can find help here.

I am embarrassed to mention that I have no interest in sending coins to countries that limit my buying coins from their country. I would be more likely to send a coin to someone whose CT profile included the privacy optional information. I am Male, 73, Virginia. I have sent gift coins to a few people still posting here but more to some who hit and ran.
Been there - maybe not loads and definitely not as many as Ken but it only takes one bad experience to make you lose interest in the subject. That is why I would be more likely to give coins to people that don't have a bunch of 'what is it worth' posts and who act interested in ancients over a period of time. These are not just coins, after all, they are my little metal children. I feel bad enough sending them off to a potentially abusive home.

    Nice gesture @Sallent

Too bad I see this thread now, I would have entered, and my reason for wanting it would have been :"I know your love for France and french !" and I would have been the winner !!!

Congratulations to the winner! Maybe you'll catch the ancient bug @Treashunt ?

I've only sent out gift coins to one person and it worked out very well.

I have gifted a few ancients in my time but I doubt each gift inspired a new collector. Hopefully the recipients at least enjoy the items.
