    fretboard Defender of Old Coinage!

I'm happy to see so many more coin collectors buying or posting pics of Tokens! I have a huge collection but in my older age I mostly leave it to others to buy as I've gotten a lifetime full of Tokens, mainly pictorials. I learned about them from my Grandfather when I was 11 or 12 so I've always been fascinated by them! ;) Unfortunately, the ones I got from my GF were stolen years ago, which took me away from collecting coins and Tokens for years.:( I hardly buy them anymore but I always wanted a Robert Ruggles 'Hard Times' Gold Beater Token, so here's a pic of the one I just bought. It's been cleaned but that's ok by me as I'm downsizing anyways, besides the prices on this Token has gone through the roof! :D

A new one for the Ob/Gyn collection. Pretty sure if there was a real snake coiled around some delivery forceps there would be mass pandemonium :wideyed::hilarious: It was a bit hard to photo...glossy and blackened treatment (or maybe it's iron, I should check the rim). Also very large so this is a cell phone shot.

Nice piece! It's Doctor Paul Trillat from France, 1879- 1970, represent him as professor at medicine university. Snakes and rod represent Hygieia, Greek goodness of hygiene and u can see also as apothecary symbol

And in this case the 'rod' is a set of Simpson's forceps for childbirth. Google-fu confirms he was a French OB. A really awful place to find a real snake, but a really cool bit of artistic license.

A photo shamelessly borrowed from the internet (complete with labels): forcps.jpeg

(edited as there does appear to be some artistic license on the medal...the lock doesn't look quite right, but oh well. It's art).

It isn't the same beer, as they sold the name of the brand to another company. It was one of those granpa drank it, dad drank it. For the apprenticeship Is was in we had to take a 3 hour tour of the power plant and brew house. Most of it was spent walking thru knee deep beer foam and stale beer, they didn't bother to say anything about boots. Even hosing pants and shoes off, everybody made it home without being pulled over by the police. because they wouldn't have believed where we had been .

I bought this in Sydney, Nova Scotia. It is intended to evoke a Scottish communion token you sometimes see, but whether it was used as such I don't know. In aluminum. fullsizeoutput_aae.jpeg fullsizeoutput_aaf.jpeg
