Eloquently stated. I, too, thought a post opened the subject for discussion. I certainly meant no disrespect.
Why not put in a little effort to dig out the coin and camera, and take new, clear pics. Would take less time than debating this with the poor pics provided.
Then Explain how three defaced quarters are identical. Or get a quarter and see how close you can get to copy them AND then get them in a sealed OBW somehow.
Meow did not want to get into any of this, hence the statement/disclaimer in the starting thread. Meow has already been through enough with it, and will not mention or shows these again. Meow thought, Meow was doing some members here a solid by showing them what else was possible in errors. Thanks.
I think your photos are just fine in there effort to show how the die scratches are identical. I also understand how hard it is getting photos of the same lines to stand out in each coin photo. I had just posted 4 1970-D LMC's with this same Defect/ Error. The photos are hard. It is hard when time and effort is put in to making a post that some people may being able to learn from, just to end up a post about much someone thinks about drinking alcohol. I learned something new from your post and appreciate the time and effort that you put into posting it. Thank you.
I’m sorry, but we explain errors based on what is actually on the coin and not based on how you found it. The answer to this puzzle lies in whether those scratch marks are raised or scratched into the coin. The far easiest way to put the question of error or PMD would be simply to pick up the coin, look at it under a 10x loupe, and tell us if the scratch marks are raised or not. If they’re raised, it’s a mint-induced error. If it’s not raised, there are a million ways a coin can be damaged. Naturally, we all want them to be errors, but it doesn’t seem likely based on what I can see. Why don’t you pull out the coins and let us know?
Whether the scratches are identical is irrelevant to whether they happened at the mint or not. I can make the same damage on any coin I want. If the scratches are raised, it’s mint-induced. If they are scratched into the coin, it was not done before the strike. No if’s, and’s, or but’s. Coin photography isn’t easy. That’s why I gave the OP advice on taking better photos. When the OP said he didn’t have a smart phone, I switched gears and asked the OP simply to tell us whether the scratches are raised or not. Lastly, there were no insults thrown, no one made fun of the OP. What we did was say “I’m not sure this happened at the mint, can you give us more information for us to make a decision?” The fact that you think you’ve learned something from what is, as yet, inconclusive, is concerning. If those scratches are not raised, then the coins were not damaged pre-strike, meaning you’ve now “learned” something untrue about the minting process and errors. Here is something you should learn about error coins. Anything can be done to any coin the exact same way, when it comes to damaging a coin. Whether you have 1 or 100 of the same coin exhibiting the same thing does not do anything to help us determine if it’s an error. What matters are the diagnostics of the coin. If the coins showed have raised scratches, it is a mint error. If the scratches are down into the coin, they are PMD, and trying to determine how coins were damaged after strike is really just a guessing game.
Please drop this questioning. Meow asked from the very beginning that Meow did not want to discuss anything related to its validity. As Meow has had enough of that the first time Meow showed this off. Cant you understand Meow is sick of this kind of questioning. As at the end there is still going to be some one harassing Meow about how they think its not real etc. AS YOU ARE DOING RIGHT NOW. This was just a Catsonal favor Meow was doing to show @FoundinTN something related to his find. And to @Heavymetal for wanting to see it. So PLEASE stop, this topic is over as far as Meow is concerned.
In the time you spent writing that, you could’ve pulled out the coins and looked at them under a loupe. Instead, you chose to go on the offensive and attack people who simply want to know more. Major red flag. Especially after you asked this question: You asked me the wrong question. It never mattered how many you had, it matters if the scratches are raised or not. This question demonstrates lack of knowledge in errors, or an effort to distract from the discussion. I think your unwillingness to answer the very basic question tells us all we need to know about these coins. Unless you plan to answer the question about whether the scratches are raised, i suggest you stop trying to bully and silence us.
Wow you are something else. Meow read a reddit about people that are entitled like that. They demand things from people that owe them nothing. Then insult and bully them when they don't get their way. Well, you cant bully Cats and expect to get your way. Time for your tantrum now? As that is the next move an entitled person makes. Anyway, Meow is done. We will not ever speak again.
Lol, coming from the person demanding their lies go unquestioned, that’s rather funny. You don’t have extreme die polished coins, you have coins you raked with steel bristles trying to pass them off as legitimate errors and are mad that we had the gall to point it out. You owe me nothing, but you don’t get to have me play along your charade as well. Lies like this mislead unknowing folks who think things like this actually happen at the mint.
Your assumption of what I learned from the post is totally incorrect. And is concerning that you think you know that is was.
