My mother-in-law, knowing that I collect coins, sent me the following email - and since I can't post a link to the email, I have retyped it in its entirety... here is goes. "This is disturbing to me... Please help do this.... refuse to accept these when they are handed back to you. I received one from the post office as change and I asked for a dollar bill instead...... the lady just smiled and said way to go, so she read this email. Please help out...our would is in enough trouble with this too. {Picture of Washington Golden Dollar} You guessed it! - "In God We Trust" is gone!!! If ever there was a reason to boycott something, this is it!!!" The funny thing was my mother-in-law was trying to get me to stop using the presidential dollars! I guess these people were just too lazy to look on the edge of the coin. I explained where they could find "In God We Trust" on the coin and how they were moving it to the front of the coin next year. And to think, my in-laws were actually trying to get me not to use the coin!!! :headbang:
My guess is she doesn't have strong feelings one way or the other regarding Presidential Dollars but instead dutifully forwarded the e-mail as (most likely) instructed.
It all boils down to the economy. When times are tough, like they are now, peeps can't afford to pay attention! Ribbit
What is it with some people and this motto ("In God We Trvst") on coins? Listening to them you'd think their god would take it personally if the motto was omitted and start smiting us in its fury.
lol, thats kind of funny but, if you dont know a lot about coins, who would expect that to be on the side?
That email has been making the rounds since about a month after the the first President dollar came out. It's uninformed people reacting to something that isn't even true. Happens every day in this country.
i actually received an e-mailil from a friend's mother, who was a member of a certain strict "religious" denomination the very first time a dollar coin came out w/ a plain edge. this has been since the washington dollar, not sure, tho it has been some tme ago and i forget as i do not collect the series. they misunderstood an error as bein the gov't. purposely removing the motto. they urged a boycoltt of the dollars due to misunderstanding what an error was vs. people referring to them as "Godless dollars". l just side info...steve
