Welcome to Coin Talk. I received two of them in CU this year. When I checked the prices on eBay ($119.00) I spent them. Couldn't afford to hold on to them.
There is no premium there, and what is so special about $100 with a *STAR* Unless an ultra low run maybe a dollar or two, but i wouldnt quit your day Job...
I enjoyed it landing in my hands because it was my first unique find since I started coin hunring. As I do this I am learning a lot of history. In return I can teach my kids and hopefully get some rare items to pass down to them one day. So maybe this may not be special to you, but for my kids they now know what a replacement bill is. So, rather than being sarcastic, maybe you can support those of us new to they hobby and encourage us to keep hunting and learning. Also, I did not post this not already aware that this serial number was part of a high run, I have been doing some research with anything that catches my eye.
Not being sarcastic. It's worth $100. If people want to think it's worth more than that, that's their business. It's a modern note. To find $100 bills worth anything you have to go back to 1966 red seals. And then it might be as much as $105-$110. Yeah I guess some star notes might have value to a collector, if they are in superb condition and "short run". But to me there are so many of these modern notes printed, it's really only $100. "Oh well I saw on EBay, blah blah blah." That doesn't mean it's really worth more than $100 no matter what some Jacksnape dillwad paid for it, or is trying to sell it for. Go into a coin shop and ask what they will pay you for it. The answer is $100.
Welcome to CT. Star notes are replacement notes for defective bills. It's not special unless it's a low run or a fancy serial number. Yours is neither so it's only worth face value.
Each bill or coin that has something a bit different has a story. Yes, finding something valuable is exciting, but so is finding something that teaches me. That is why I joined up here, in order to learn from those with more experience. I am hoping I gain enough knowledge one day in order to provide decent and educated responses to others on here. But I will not be one to start my replies with "what's so special....." about whatever they find. That statement is a bit of a punch to the gut and a reminder that some of us don't know as much yet.
@Blaydr382, first, welcome to CT! Wow, member just since Sunday & already got your panties in a wad! Settle down pilgrim! Your brief thread was titled: $100 Bill with Star Your brief post was : I found a star note, what do you think and possible value. That's all you wrote! If you spent any time here, you would know we get several of these $100 bill and/or star questions every week from newbies, & you could have just looked up these threads. No where did you indicate your lack of knowledge or desire to teach your kids. You received direct, honest replies. That C-note, without any other anomaly, will still be worth $100 10 yrs or 20 yrs from now (albeit, likely with less purchasing power). Is it worth locking up $100 to have $100 in 20 years? There are thousands & thousands of star notes of the $1 variety you can use for teaching (but again, without another anomaly attached, they will still only be worth $1). You newbies kill me with the idea that because something seems "different" or uncommon, that it must be valuable (you did ask for the "possible value") - it's not. No one started with "what's so special.." You're too sensitive! (Most of us here, however, have not been through sensitivity training, so what do we know...) But you only found something valuable because it is actually worth $100!!! You can learn the same thing from a $1. You didn't get a "gut punch". You got honest answers & food for thought, maybe cryptic, but so was your title & question. You really did come to the right resource, if you care to stick around.
I will be, I seek to learn. By the way, I read that first thing when I woke up. But I enjoy challenges. I look forward to what we all find.
More than you ever want to know about paper money serial #s http://www.uspapermoney.info/ This page: http://www.uspapermoney.info/serials/f2013_h.html says it was printed in March 2015 and is one of the last of 21,120,000 MB stars. That's not considered rare.
You will be just fine Blaydr.. jus keep reading the threads and you get a feel for the forum and allot of the Fellas here.. They are outstanding with their knowledge of Currency. It really amazes me of their attention to detail of a particular coin. BUT.. they ding me for grammar, punctuation, sentences you name it.. I have heard allot of comments about being illiterate through out … doesn't bother me.. PRIVY is usually the one who dings me and he is very knowledgeable of coins too. He said the other day you need to spend money on grammar than silver and gold and he was serious...
No one that comes in here, visits, ask questions, inquire or the like deserves to be “Dinged” by (Any) other member, I don’t give two shakes to a wet leaf how experienced they are, knowledgeable in any or all coin aspects. If one cannot give out pleasantries in sharing coin info with those of less knowledge, then your better off not exchanging anything, (Period)!!! It far to often appears that a cold shoulder is thrown around far to often to the newbies. Thank goodness that statement certainly doesn’t apply to (All) C T individuals however! So anyway, take a deep breath, swallow a chill pill and treat and be nice to all who come here for whatever reason. Think back to the days of when (We) all were once newbies, in many more ways then just here on C T “Peace” & God Bless
