My first CRH. Yesterday I went to my local bank and they had 10 rolls of half dollars. I bought all 10 and went thru them and found 2 40% halves, a 1965 & a 1967.

It was a fun experiment, but I'm not sure if it's for me. Time will tell...

To be frank, consistently finding silver in this hobby requires searching at least a thousand coins each week, so prepare to deposit large sums of copper coins you do not want to keep. Have a plan in place for depositing your rejected coins before you begin accumulating coins to search, or you may become miserable.

Based on the spreadsheet I have maintained for the last 6 years of searching halves, my effort searching for silver halves has resulted in the equivalent of earning $2.47/hour...No joke. I would be faaaaar better off working for minimum wage.

From time to time I repair cars for friends/coworkers and charge them at least $25/hour. Just another example of, if I was searching coins for the income, I would not be searching coins...Coin roll hunting is only a hobby!

    Best of luck to you!

Just arrived in Austin and already dumped $1000 of re-wrapped halves. I asked one teller if he sees a lot of halves at his branch. He said, “Oh yeah, the collectors go through a lot of them”. I may have a hard time finding sealed boxes tomorrow, lol. I have another $1000 in loose to dump tomorrow and then begins the quest for silver. Ah ha! I just had a thought. I should buy some quarter rolls in hopes for some Ws! None to be had in my small town, but here in the capital city of the great state of Texas, the odds are better.

Seems like it's been awhile since I had a decent hunt. Got a good penny box today though. 26 wheats, 3 Canadians (no youngheads), and 6 '09s.
Best of the box, 4 from the 1930s (1934,'35,'37,'38) and a very bright '49.
    All from Philly.

I was born in the Year of the Dragon (1952) . I collect the capped bust & seated liberty halves (only type coins I collect otherwise I just hoard odd denomination gold libertys $5.00 and below from 1852 to 1865 & some from 1878). That's a good movie huh ? Enjoy your weekend.I can't believe that I forgot to mention my favorite half which is Benjamin Franklin , silly me BWAHAHAHA .

Got 91 dollars in halves from the bank yesterday, customer rolls.

90 were rolled and 1 (FV) was loose. The two coins loose were 40%ers, so I figured this batch had to be good.

All in all i came out with 11.5 face value (23 coins total) in 40%ers!

I haven't found a score this good in a long time!

    Good luck everyone :)

@Ima Dragon check out these two capped bust I bought this week! My first ever, and for $40 total so I think I did okay.

In other news, last night 1 bank had $70 in mwr halves. I didn’t notice the 1944 ender until I arrived home. The only silver in the rolls, and I didn’t find anything in $400 worth of mwrs I had laying around from last week, but I’m not complaining! This was only my 5th walking liberty found while crh-ing, all have come from mwrs.

Today, I dumped another $1000 in searched halves in Austin. I wasn't able to find any sealed bank boxes of halves, but I did find a bank with $238 in CWRs. Unfortunately, they look suspiciously like CRH dumped rolls. I'll check them on the way home today when it's the wife's turn to drive, lol. I also bought $200 in MWRs of quarters in the hope I find some 2019 Ws.

I tried to "free style" after I dumped some coin today. Went to Wells Fargo, the guy asked every teller and checked the vault. They had 1 half dollar. I was more than happy to buy it from him

I then went over to BofA and the guy told me they had $420 in CWR. I said I'd be happy to buy them and then he hit me with the "what's your account number" question. I told him I didn't have one and he refused to sell them. I asked 3 people in line behind me if they would buy them (with my cash) when they got up to the window and I would give them $10 for their troubles. All refused. Oh well...

I've been lucky in regards to not being asked if i have an account. I went to a local bank and they hit me with that question, haven't been back since.

Usually they are more than happy about getting rid of halves!

@furryfrog02 let me know what branch and I'll pick them up for you, i have an account ;)

Good try FF! My experience with Wells Fargo is always good. Even the tellers here in Austin acted happy to take my rolled and dumped halves. I even took back mostly cash at one branch after depositing a modest amount of dumped halves and they were super pleasant about it. I just wish they still had their coin machines. :hungover:
