wow!!! gorgeous coin Drusus!!!! regardless of our opinions on other subjects...<everyone is completely entitled to their own opinion >...(if james carville and mary matlin can get along)....that is one pretty coin!! i am not a "darksider" as i am having enough difficulties putting together a set of morgans...i love the ancient and european coins as well.....i had thought from the appearance that it was english (due to the obverse lion). may i ask what it is as well as the design signifigance? thank you for sharing your coin!!!

nice lincoln as well Phoenix ((if one could only collect every variety and type of every type they find interest in)
...ahhh to have unlimited funds...thank you for sharing your lincoln...very nice!!!! all the photos and preferences are greatly appreciated!. thanks all.

    sincerely...steve

No problem and I am glad you like it. The coin is a 10 Sols from Belgium. The somewhat creepy baby head between the 17 and 90 is the mint mark refering to Brussels.

Insurrection Coinage / Belgium, Revolt against Joseph II (HRE), 10 Sols, 1790, Brussels / obv. Brabant lion standing right, MON NOV ARG PROV FOED BELG (Currency new money Provincial federated Belgium), rev. two hands shaking, arrows behind, IN VNIONE SALVS (in union for health/strength/salvation)

The bundle of 11 arrows representing 11 provinces: East Flanders, West Flanders, Brabant, Hainault, Tournai, Namur, Luxembourg, Liège, Limburg, Antwerp and Mechelen.

This coin was minted during a small period of time when they broke away from the Holy Roman Empire.

Drusus...thank you for your response and info...it is truly a gorgeous coin w/ so much historical signifigance behind it.. so nice of you to take the time to tell us of this. i wish i could collect so many different types. the only other type of coins i have (other than u.s) are a widow's mite and a mexican doubloon which i have as a pocket piece. i hope to someday have the knowledge to branch out into other world (especially ancient and american revolutionary coinage). for now morgan dollars are my concentration point and from there to an 18th or 19th century u.s type set. hopefully, new testament era coinage after that goal is accomplished (or mixed and alternated within). thank you again for sharing such a beautiful coin and your willingness to share your knowledge.
    sincerely, steve

Good question, I dont know, maybe Bart knows. It might represent the Manneken Pis, a small fountain sculpture depicting a naked little boy urinating. It has several legends about what it represents.

It's a tough call and depends on my mood but a 1917 Standing Liberty Quarter would be right up there for me.
