You sure about that? The pic is a bit too blurry to say for sure. Meow thinks there might be a die chip, as a lot of material is in the wrong place for a average hit.

"an average hit" are you talking just one singular hit over the 56 years of potential circulation? Maybe it took multiple hits? Can you exclude more than one hit on the coin? Can you or the OP provide a list of how it took all the scraps, scratches, stains and wear on every part of the cent .. was it during just one singular contact with something? Look at all the damage IN GOD WE TRUST took, and how the N was smooshed too? But just the N .. not all the other letters. How did that happen ? Damage can be inconsistent and uncorrelated on just one coin. If you hit one side with a hammer does the damage get automatically mirrored on the other half ? If you look at even the blurry image you can see some very tell-tale signs of damage and wear Notice that vertical rectangular indentation from the mid-top of the 3 to the lower part of the middle of the 3 ? which is over top the smooshed 3. Compare it to a billion of other coins with smooshed stuff and copper cents with metal displaced. one must realize that coins made for commerce can get damaged in unlimited ways, unlimited times by unlimited methods.
