No, it's classic 'mechanical' or 'ejection' doubling. Not an error - a very very very common effect on all dates and denominations.
I don't mean to offend but I call it MD as that is what it is, mechanical doubling but not all people understand that term. Therefore I use worthless doubling as that is something people do understand.
NVD is actually one of the terms also used after MD is explained. It could confuse some, if it's used for minor doubled dies that are DD's, but have no premium value. I don't have a problem with it, but feel it should be used as part of a short MD explanation. The shortest explanation: MD=NVD
I think I was mis-understood. I too, had never heard the term NVD until I just read this thread this morning. I was just commenting on it - I didn't mean to imply that the term had been used before...It hadn't, as far as I know. CollectingNut gets the credit !
