Rosey has swelling on the brain causing uncontrollable sinus drainage.

It appears our beloved 32nd president has suffered some head trauma. But I'd say there's more to this story .This 2003 P dime has a a circular mark on Franklin's head that at first glance almost looks like coin machine Mark's but a closer look reveals a round impression within deforming a sizable portion of the cranium. Would I be far off to guess it's a strike through of some type? Perhaps Something was possibly left on or found it's way to the hammer die or jumped in just before the strike, I know thats pretty unlikely but it's fun to picture a small frisbee landing on the PLANCHET as the striking commences. I've seen a few strike through a die cap errors but this doesn't look like the few I've seen. Also a crack coming down from the nose among others on obverse and some cracking or die break on reverse. Anybody have any ideas?

It is damage. Possibly from a coin rolling machine.

 

Could be, I guess. never them leave such a defined impression. Also never so close to the center of the coin.

 

remember, they're all sorts of "automated" coin rolling machines, all the way to "Manual" coin rolling machines .. where it's up to the person to manually with either hold the wrapped coins up to an automated paper roller, or even a manual paper roller device.

If you look at the arc, you'll see it's not consistent. It changes angles at the back of the neck. So probably some form of manual device as it also has many scraps. So may or maybe not a coin rolling device.

You should ask the person that damaged it why and how they did that so far away from the rim (rhetorical question). Maybe it was a machine for a smaller foreign coin or maybe something entirely different ?? (again ask the person that did the damage).

It's always best to discern what is damage and not necessarily worry about exactly how or why it occurred ...

 

Some of the newer jewelry tools for making rings from coins start with a circular cutout ( they use a hollow punch ) , although a dime is very small for that.

Right, I know better to I was just scowering the internet looking for any mint error that came near it, there's nothing. Definitely a small ring to be in the center if a dime, but I've got some Soviet coins that are about a third of the size of a us dime and I'd say they tube up coins in a similar fashioned, so I shifted my suspicion in the direction of pmd. The snot rocket die crack and break onothe eyelid is cool though.

The link you had are the tools for larger for folded or for finishing the folding (after you normally drill a hole in the middle).

For smaller objects and doming they use "dapping" sets.

which a lot of "newbies" don't buy the good dapping sets and try "at home" stuff with varying success and failures. I know, my kids and friends have tried.
