You found a 1982 copper small date. It's one of the 7 common varieties. The weight is within mint tolerance.

 

1982 D Copper is the Swish, is that what I was hoping for @Oldhoopster?

1982-D SMALL DATE copper is the rare one. You got 2 out of 3 right. That gets you a coin worth one cent.

In 1982, the Denver mint made slightly more than 6 BILLION cents. So far 2 copper small dates have been authenticated. The odds of winning the Powerball are a lot better at at only 1 in 292 million. Just something to keep in perspective

Yes, the 1982 D copper small date is the swish. Man...... large/small, copper/zinc, Philly/Denver.....It's hard to keep that stuff straight.

Only 2 have ever been found. I don't think others will ever be found again. So everyone should just stop driving themselves nuts looking for one. IMHO

Paddyman you are right, I have a hard time trying to tell. Pic of 1982 d I found 3.11 copper, need some help on this please.

 

Easiest way for me is looking at the shape of the 2 then the shape of the 8. Look at the pic in post 11 ( you may want to save it for reference). The 2 on the Lg Date has a straighter downstroke, while small date has a curve. The 8 on the Lg Date has both circles about equal size, while the small date looks like a snowman.

I still look at my 82 d when I get them but I know the chances are slim. My holy grail transitional is the 92 d CAM
