Another stupid theory from Stolen History: Pontius Pilate (if he even existed) was a Medieval figure from no earlier than the 15th century. The implication being, of course, that Jesus is only 500 years old. https://www.stolenhistory.org/threa...e-please-stand-up-and-show-us-your-toga.1417/ What are your thoughts?
My "thoughts" are that the author of that article is not very bright. I wish I could get the few minutes of my life back from reading *his* thoughts. Artists *commonly* depict their subjects through the lens of their culture. Unless I'm mistaken, he is basically saying that Pilate was a Medieval figure simply due to the way he was shown in various pieces of art. People will go to extreme lengths to attempt to disprove the Bible. Gustave Flaubert, far from a moral person, did write some truth when he penned: "You can calculate the worth of a man by the number of his enemies, and the importance of a work of art by the amount that it is attacked."
I think the real question is: was Pilate an immortal figure who lived several hundred years, always changing his outfit to fit the times???
Another example of our modern era: The ability of any nincompoop to put up a web site and put out garbage.
The odd thing is, the guy who writes these posts researches VERY well, for the most part. He combs through dozens of ancient newspaper articles for any traces of what he needs. Some of his posts are extremely long, detailed, and well cited. If you ever thought you had too much free time....
The author sounds like a person that did not receive enough attention as a child and has written this nonsense to make up for it.
When in doubt trust the evidence! Here's a 2,000 year old coin attributed to him Pontius Pilate (Procurator 26-36 CE). AE Prutah, Jerusalem mint, 30-31 AD. D/ Lituus. TIBEPIOY KAICAPOC. He existed. Archaeologists found a temple dedication inscription that had his name and Tiberius'. You can read more about it on Wikipedia https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pilate_stone They've also found a sealing ring with his name in Greek. Probably belonged to one of his clerks...
Pontius Pilate definitely existed, regardless of the link. The Stones would have never made one of the best songs in Rock history if he never existed! j/k
Honestly there probably is a thread in stolenhistory about that. They often tend to some more insane things, like “Napoleon built the great pyramids”
