I would not have space or the honorable place to put this, but I love the idea. I like seeing you do it instead of buying something ready-made. Good luck!

Yes, I did but after looking at those, I even selected one, I was walking around when I spotted this.
I liked the look of the boards so I bought that.

It's my mom's brother who died in the Pacific aboard a submarine. I worked with a group of Navy retirees to put it together, as they knew what medals to include and how to present them in the correct order. They even gave me the chevron and submarine dolphin patch. I wouldn't know any of this, since I was in the Army. We got his "Deaceased Personnel File" (just a piece of paper, really) and found out what medals he would have had also, which the DoD sent to my mother.

Yeah, and a shadow box has that extra layer of plastic covering it. I like the presentation of the coins in airtites placed in the drilled holes. It has the advantage of being able to flip the case around to view the other sides.

I went to a local engraving store $7.95 for the tag and 11.95 for the engraving each, so $20.00 x 7 = $140.00, I'll pass. By the way plastic tags would only be $5 each.
I did find a guy on eBay and I'm waiting for his quote.

Yikes! Sticky tape looks like a better option after seeing that price.

Have you considered finding a laser cutting shop?

Typically you use whatever you have to create a pdf file of two colors. One color cuts through the material and one cuts just a bit into it. You pay for the material and cutting time...

    https://www.ponoko.com/laser-cutting/wood

you would need to use one of their thinner materials so you can cut through it and then glue that to a backing sheet.

If you have a hobby lobby near you check out their frames and wall shadow boxes the had one a couple of years ago that had circles punched out, before it was covered with the materiel. You just had to cut the materiel on the ones you wanted. If I remember it was for casino chips in capsules . Plus the have a coupon for 40% off. here ids the link https://www.hobbylobby.com/

I struggle saying this..... I found a full set of Chinese Forster bits extremely cheap a few years back. They aren’t quality cutting tools, but should be fine for a half dozen holes.

I have a set of Horrible Fright Forester bits, As long as you aren't trying to run production with them and don't overheat them they are great for the money for general home owners hobbyist use. Considering that any number of imported bits under dozens of other brand names are the same. But if you are only need one ore two sizes check out the big box improvement stores they sell them singly or at least they did. They also sold adjustable spade type bits that would cut an infinate number of sized hole in their range.

Good deal. I was trying to remember where I got mine and I do believe they came from Harbor Freight now that you mention it. They work best on a drill press but work fine with a hand drill. They like to walk a bit so start slow and a pilot hole to keep the point of the bit centered helps a lot.
