My first real Coin Star find this morning! $1.59 plus a Chuck E. Cheese token. The star of the bunch was a 43 D Lincoln. The bottom quarter and bottom nickel were stuck together which is probably why the normal $1.58 made it to the reject tray.
Nice spill today. I don't have an accurate count on quarters, this is around #8. But it's the oldest one I ever got.
Three coins in the Harris-Teeter reject slot yesterday: a state quarter, a Bermuda (?) quarter (looked chrome-plated), and a 1963-D dime. The dime came home with me.
Finally ended my seven-month Coinstar silver drought with a 1956 Roosevelt Dime at the local Kroger's Coinstar machine.
Last winter, I just randomly told my little cousin to go check the coinstar and he found a 1964 dime. Gotta admit, I was a little jealous since I had never found anything exciting other than half dollars, but hey, hopefully that will get him into the hobby. Then the other day, I found a few Canadians and finally my first silver! I cant quite make out the full date, must be either a '58 or '59.
Mini foreign spill. 2 Chuck E Cheese .19 American 1 new penny 1974 Great Britain 1 pfennig 1980 Germany 10 pfennig 1976 Germany 15 kopeks 1987 Russia
2 cents stuck together, Family Fun Center token, Canada cent, South Africa 2 Rand, and 2 Malaysia 5 sen coins in a coinstar.
Not a coinstar find but there was about 90 cents of change and a 2 dollar coupon for next time in the self checkout at the grocery store this morning.
Found this in the coin star tonight at our local grocery store along with 2 shield pennies. Any ideas why the obverse looks so new and shiny but the reverse is toned like it is?
No worries there! That's one of the first things I learned when I started collecting a little over a year ago. An Acetone dip would be done only if absolutely needed.
I've used acetone on silver, clad coins and copper pennies. They claim it won't hurt copper, but some opinions vary on that. I would just leave this coin alone. It could be 1939-S AU (Red?) which would be a very good find.
Yeah, this coin is definitely skipping a bath! I compared it to a couple MS coins on the Heritage website and the only big difference I see is the toning on the reverse of mine. Some people think the toning kills a coin, but others prefer it. But regardless of the grade, I think it looks pretty good for an 80 year old coin that's been in circulation and found in a coin star to boot!!!
