Thanks a lot @ace71499! I'm glad you are as happy with the coin as I am with the nice Philly Yellowstone Park Quarter you sent me. It has a prominent spot in my collection! As Wind In His Hair said to Kevin Costner, "Good Trade"!

    Sorry, but that's just damage.

Looks like post mint damage to me. Given the flat bits on opposite edges, I'd say someone hit it with a hammer or squeezed it in vice. So it's worth a quarter, as long as you don't try to use it in a machine, because it will spit it right out.

A coin hunt from a few days ago or something:
1 box of cents: 1920, 1945 Canada, some other stuff in the pics
    1 box of dimes: skunk
1 box of quarters: 2012-S Chaco Culture NIFC (looks like a typical shiny D-minted quarter)

My $500 order of halves didn’t come in Friday, so it’s reordered for this week. No other halves at this bank.

Another bank had $130 in cwr halves and $6 loose:

    1968!

Seems like forever since I found a silver half:)

The remainder of cwrs contained bicentennials to 1984. Someone went to a lot of trouble to collect these halves years ago...

Did some vending machine surfing while on vacation (aka putting a dollar in, canceling it for quarters and cycling the quarters through).

Got a lot of 2019s but nothing crazy.

Anyone notice that D mint quarters generally look more "proof like" than the P mints. I can definitely tell the difference between the two without seeing the mint marks.

I am thinking about getting a box of quarters tomorrow. I really want to find a W!

Yeah, for sure. Been saying this for a while now. It’s strange why the planchets are different.

I got a box of quarters. What do I look for besides W and silver?

That's kind of an open question. Depends on what you want to collect.

There are HUNDREDS of things you can look for if you want to spend the time doing it. Google quarter errors and you will find the top ten to look out for. Some I like to do are:
The Kansas state Quarter 2005 Motto is "In god we rust"
The Wisconsin state Quarter has an extra leaf on the stalk of corn.
Look up POOPING HORSE ERROR as well as Spitting horse error.
I like to look for early quarters (silver) with the S mint Mark.
That's just some of what is out there. Figure out what quarters have known an Valuable errors, Set those aside as you search, then go back for a closer inspection.
That's just my Opinion as a newbie.
