Moved to Europe and got this 1896 coin back in change today

I just moved to Poland and received this back in change. It looks like it could be from Austria, Germany, Hungary or Russia from what I read on Google. Any thoughts?

I know the pictures aren't the greatest but I haven't unpacked my coin gear yet as I wasn't expecting to receive anything over a 100 yrs old so soon. I'm currently having to use my cellphone for pictures.

It's fine if it's not very valuable. I'm just excited to see that I can continue my hobby over here. Any info that you can provide is appreciated.

One of the MANY benefits of living overseas...opens up whole new vistas of coin collecting! Starts with pocket change, then you find an album, then it spirals :D.

Sheesh, how'd you get that? Poland has been using the zloty ever since independence, if memory serves me correctly.

Probably someone pranking the American. I remember going to a country in Africa and getting change from a nearby similar-but different coinage country. I didn't mind a bit as we were headed there too, plus it was good for my pocket change collection. I'm sure they were happy to put one over on me.

This is so true. I gave up my favorite painting and half of my clothes so that I'd have room to bring my coin collection with me. I have no idea what to look for at the moment, but that's part of what makes it fun and exciting.

This is possible. I didn't even notice until I got back home. I don't mind though. Like I said, I don't care if it's worthless monetarily. I was just excited to see something over 100 yrs old. It got my heart to go pitter-patter a little bit and made me smile. If I knew which store gave it to me I'd become a loyal customer! :)
