Just to be clear, this is an NGC graded coin. Johndoe, that’s not an interrupting question, that’s one for learning, the real purpose of these threads
The Star is only awarded by NGC, and signifies the coin has exceptional eye appeal or just barely misses the next higher designation. The Plus is awarded by NGC and PCGS, and signifies the coin is premium for the grade. These coins are supposed to be high end, perhaps just barely missing the next higher grade. (fun fact: CAC ignores the plus - a CAC sticker on a 65+ only means CAC agrees the coin is in the top 2/3 for 65) As far as I know, ANACS and ICG don't use the Plus.
@mikenoodle It's hard to believe that none have guessed correctly. Unless johndoe just got it. Maybe they went conservative Are we seeing a 66+ cam
@Johndoe2000$ just nailed it. And many came close. The star made this one tough. Hats off! I sincerely thought this coin was an Ultra Cam, but I guess the star says. “Close, but not quite.”
The star can also mean that the coin just missed the next higher designation. A * CAM could either mean "that is a CAMEO coin with extraordinary eye appeal" or it could mean "that is almost but not quite UCAM," or it could mean "One side is UCAM but one side is only CAM." It is confusing.
I figured that might have been the case with this recent pickup, close to Cameo but not quite... but I guess according to the standards they won’t award it without consensus on the eye appeal so that plays a role as well. Great coin and well done, Mike- I don’t really collect MS franklins but the PL and Cameo contrast ones look fantastic.
Ms means business strike (or Mint State). This is clearly a proof coin, which would be graded Pr or Pf. You've been here long enough to know that.
Yeah. Hardy grade proofs. Mostly MS. Yeah got into a rut. You did catch me just before i caught myself. Thanks
The worst part is that the grade had already been posted and you guessed wrong. Most would have read all of the posts before posting their correct guess. On this forum it’s called Ed Wood grading if I recall correctly. And if I don’t my apologies to Ed Wood! LOL
