Mailman delivered me a birthday present, so I figured I'd post them. Sweden made a bunch of attractive coins, and there seem to be quite a few prooflikes available from Sweden. These are the first coins I've bought in quite a while. Go ahead and guess the grades!
I will take a stab at the grades. Not sure if NGC actually designates them as PL so. MS 66 MS 66 MS 65 The last has a really nice contrast and some cool die polishing lines.
Yes, NGC designates all qualifying prooflike coins with the PL. All three of these have been designated as PL.
You should look into the 2 kronor commemorative coins they minted from 1897-1938 or so. Some beautiful pieces there and not too pricey, at least compared to some of their Norwegian counterparts!
Do they come in prooflike condition? I am only interested in prooflike coins. I am assembling a US type set in PL, and have acquired a random smattering of foreign PL coins.
The contrast is exceptional on the 2nd and 3rd coins. But it's still pretty darn good on the first one. This is a case of "suffering by comparison."
You can find some PL examples but, no, most were not minted in that form. If you have a big budget for PL coins, look at the 100 Schilling gold coinage from Austria in the 1920s and 1930s. Absolutely stunning and available for not too much over melt!
I am familiar with them. However, I do not like the specially made presentation pieces. Same with the PL sets from Canada, Russia, or South Africa. I prefer the prooflikes which were unintentionally made (think of the US Morgan dollar). Hence, these Swedish PL's are not specially made but are instead a happy accident.
