Curious again. The mint mark looks like a D so that means Denver's mint? I'm having trouble grading it tho. VF? In which case around $40.

Worn 21 morgans are usually around 20 dollars at my local coin shop.

Anyway, we've had our fun and @LA_Geezer has brought us back to the original question.

There are many ways to approximate the value of a coin...

For common (almost commodity) items, eBay sold (not just listed) prices are a good indicator. So for an uncertified '21 Morgan: https://www.ebay.com/b/Philadelphia...1921/39464/bn_113374049?rt=nc&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc

You'll see a lot of sales for nicer coins in the $15 - $20 range.

There are prices guides, but you need to understand their bias and what they mean. Both PCGS and NGC publish them, but they are only valid for the associated plastic (if that even) and they seem to be a little proud of their holder.

For example: https://www.ngccoin.com/coin-explor...8-1921-pscid-49/1921-morgan-1-ms-coinid-17296 where they have a VG for $22... back to fleaBay? No comparable sales.

There are also online price guides. This one https://www.greysheet.com/coin-prices/item?entryid=7600 is from the people who publish the wholesale greysheet. It's a retail guide, i.e. what you would expect to pay in a decent but not upscale coin shop. Says $23. That too seems a little high, since BU coins are selling on eBay for less.

So, you have to take all the price guides with a grain of salt, but at least you know you are in the neighborhood of $20 not $200.

Thanks for all of this. This coin reminded me of a problematic '21 Morgan I have. I've posted its obverse with a question at this new thread, and would appreciate your thoughts:

1921 Morgan's are very common. Yours would be in the $19.00-$20.00 range.

    I agree- $20.
It wouldn’t be worth $40, even in better condition.

@Alicia728 ...if you are up to the challege, go to VAMWorld...they have 225 VAMs listed for 1921-D Morgans alone.

Your VF grade seems good, but if you want to learn how to grade Morgans go here:

It is a post here on CoinTalk from 23 June 2010 by @tmoneyeagles . Search CT for

"Exhibit - Grading the Morgan Dollar". You will find the post illuminating, helpful and inspiring.

Good luck and let us know what you find...Spark
