10-S VF-35, 12-D VF-30. Nice strike on 12, but wear shows even on the lapel. Not as nice a strike on the 10, but not as much wear either. Looks like some remaining luster around the rim. Also a few small nicks/scratches that show. I wanted to go 40, but for the nicks. Both very nice VF's, but I wouldn't want to pay XF money for them.

Whoa, man??? Times like this I wonder if the graders just plain overgraded, or if there was a messup in the label room. Don't get me wrong, very sweet coins, but not XF IMHO. :thumb:

I guess I have a whole boat load of semi-key XF Lincolns that I paid VF money for. This also makes me less inclined to be too critical of Ebay sellers who claim XF while I sit back and say "Nah, it's VF". I learned to grade pennies from a very honorable dealer and the ANA book, but I also know in general, the standards have eroded. The fact is there are a lot of collectors who are happy to pay xf money for raw coins just like that, and I guess that makes a certain market.

Yeah, these are a little loose, I'll do do some more guess the grades when I figure out a contest and a giveaway.

I can believe that the 10-S got a 40. That is a nice reverse on the coin and that does enter into the grading. However, that 12-D escapes me. The only sort of explanation I can think of is that the 12-D is typically weakly struck - or at least the ones I have seen.

I'll agree with that. If these were raw, Id go 35 and 30.

Now, how do you sell em?

Maybe crack 'em out? Just a suggestion, I'm not totally sure how you should sell them. A real toughie. Best of luck to you with them. :thumb:

You "accidentally" slip them in with some BU cents that a fellow AZ member would purchase.

WOW, those grades do surprise me. My next guess was gonna be MS70s and some knock off grading company, but NGC, wow.
To sell em, nice clear pics, pictures of what the slab says, and off to ebay. Let the bidders be the judge.

why's everyone surprised? wasn't the general grade idea a 40?

Hmm, those are VERY weak 40's. Snaz, the general sentiment seemed to be more lile 30/35 at the most. NGC dropped the ball on this, but Jack g/l with the sale.

Sounds like a plan to me, sell em as a pair. I have a 10-S in a NGC slab graded VF-35 almost identicle. My other NGC's are pretty solid. I do not remember getting these or where they came from, they turned up while cleaning and organizing my safe.

I would say that you are a little low on the 10-S - especially since it is a high VF.
