Hi. I just signed up with CoinTalk recently but I've been around for a bit. Have you seen this varieties before? 1. Looks like die crack on the head 2. What looks like a broken off column 3. All the writting around Montecillo removed I pulled them all from different coin rolls. The pictures are not greatest, as I dont have the right equipment. Any inputs will be greatly appreciated.
What you have are not varieties. Your posted pictures are mints errors or damage. Edit: The 1st & 2nd pictures do look like die cracks, the 3rd looks likes a scratch. Is it raised or recessed? These are varieties: https://www.ngccoin.com/variety-plus/united-states/nickels/jefferson-five-cents-1938-date/
Copy. I wasnt sure what's the right word to use when I started this post. Thanks for the clarification.
No problem. You're in the right section. It just takes time. Most people just write: "Error??" in there subject line when they are not sure.
#2 is not a die crack. If it’s raised, it may be glue or some other adhered material like @Heavymetal said and it is not an error. If it is recessed, then it’s a minor strikethrough error like @Conder101 said. I can’t tell from the pics, but the OP should easily be able to tell with it in hand. I agree with the other posts that #1 is a die crack/die break while #3 is PMD.
