1970 Lincoln Penny Error

I’ve found a out of the ordinary coin while going through my collection and have never seen a coin like this before. I’d really like to see how much this coin is worth to see what it’s true value is. If you know please feel free to reply to this post and please let me know!

Has anyone seen a penny like this before? I found it in my collection and was wondering exactly what it was, and the value if possible of this coin.

 

Whelp, short answer is it's worth what someone will give you for it. But, despite what appears to be a nifty, post mint, anonymous artistic rendering of Abe's passing moment, I don't think it'll be more than a buck or two. Is there lettering around the edge of the, uh, explosion?

 

No I do not see any lettering around the explosion.

 

It's a keeper, or it would be if I found it, but it's not a known variety or a lamination or other mint process error, so value would just be on artistic merit. Still a very cool coin.

 

Welcome to Coin Talk. IMO I don't think it came from the mint like that. Wait for the experts on error coins @Fred Weinberg, @mikediamond, @paddyman98, @cpm9ball, et al.

 

Just from a quick glance there could be a couple things going on there. How about a photo of the reverse?

That's the Alien cent. The creature has attached itself to Abe's face and will be popping out of his chest soon. Big bucks on eBay. LOL
