Because it’s an open market and a free country. People can list for whatever they want, doesn’t mean people will actually buy it.

They can only charge that price if someone buys at that price.

There are ridiculous listing prices on eBay, too, and probably everywhere else.

This is a semi-educated guess, but I don’t think serious coin folks buy or sell on Etsy.

I understand that I just feel it gives people who care about coins and like to sell some for what the coins are worth a bad name.... I mean I understand at auction it's usually 2 guys trying to outbid each other to show who has the bigger..... Wallet...... But come on really

Very astute observation. Yes unfortunately there is a great deal of web media that puts our hobby in a negative light. I often wonder how those Etsy people are able to sleep nights.

Is this a pathetic veiled attempt to advertise? Because you can't be serious about taking your site down. If you are priced lower than everyone else, people would buy from you. Doesn't everyone understand basic economics?

On offer up the other day. A guy posted 4 circulated Ike's at 10 dollars each.
    I sent him a message.

"Huh, 10 bucks for a common coin I can get anywhere for a dollar"

    He responded with
"Have you been on Etsy? My price is much better than that"

I could only Laugh. It's pretty rediculous if you ask me.

I believe it was his honest reaction to being repulsed by the outrageous ads he found. Perfectly reasonable response in my view. I would be embarrassed to be part of that Etsy community myself.

The problem is the site itself.... Not really sure why u feel like u need to talk to me like that but u can hold off on saying that crap to me..... If a site attracts a lot of negative people who just put stuff like that on there then there aren't real advid coin shoppers..... U pay for listings....not a lot 20 cent to be exact but what is the point if people like that are on there..... Are u going to go on there to buy coins......?? Nope u will not.... And please have respect please I'm not advertising

Thank you for all the people who responded appropriate I appreciate it.... Now is there a better place other than eBay to list coins u have found in rolls or pocket change or bought years ago on the cheap.... A lot of stuff I like to keep but also I have a lot I want to sell..... I'm not advertising once again I'm asking a legit question

No. Etsy is the worst place for a collector to buy.

I've actually seen something similar with Amazon and the (relatively) few coin listings they offer.

Before you jump out of Etsy, give yourself a few months to gather an audience, make some sales, build a solid relationship with your customers and offer fair prices. There are limitations with such a site with ebay cornering this market. It takes time to build a rapport, keep your 100% feedback solid, etc. Just be aware that, it is a limited market place compared to the big boys sites. So, it's going to take longer. You might also try Web Store, again, limited in scope but doable if you are willing to have patience. And who knows, if you begin to do well you may see others dropping their prices and you may start a trend towards a better experience for everyone there. I am not promoting Etsy by any means, but sometimes you need an alternative. Just do not expect the same kind of sales volume you could or might expect from ebay.

Find a smarter coin dealer... dollars to donuts s/he figured after seeing the prices at etsy you would think her/his prices were bargains.

It was because I took some coins in to see if they were error coins and he told me try to fetch as much as I can get.... There only worth what a collector wants to pay

I do! I get great deals on ETSY! I bought (4) PS69's at $14 each. graded by PCSG and the dealer threw this in for free! Plus, I sell coins on ETSY every week. Mainly error coins and proof coins I buy from dealers!
