:banghead: - People need to do a little research before they buy coins! Unauthenticated? You think...

Is it even worth the time to send the auction company an e mail that it is a Chinese counterfeit and no such date exists for this series?
And that they probably shouldn't list it as an American Trade Dollar, and that labeling it as unauthenticated doesn't really absolve them.
If they want to sell it they should list it as a Chinese counterfeit so the buyers understand what they are getting.

    I don't think they care.

I get that impression as well.
Although it is illegal to sell counterfeit coins as real.
And I don't think "unauthenticated" gives them a free pass.

Hmm. If police seize an item that's illegal to sell, and then sell it through a third party... hmm.

Those bidders are so dumb, gullible and uninformed that you almost can’t feel sorry for them.

When you need to do is Google “U.S. Trade Dollar” to get the interval during which these coins were issued, there are no excuses.

Could this be due to time travel?

The best coin company to start now is metal analysis and tachyon levels.

While they claim it is repossessed police stuff, I don't think the police are involved.
They might sell all the crap in huge lots to this dishonest auction company.
I don't know which one it was but I read a lot of complaints about Police auction sites, not receiving the goods, overcharged for shipping, poor customer service,
switching items, not making correct refunds, etc. etc.

    That coin looks like a business strike. Wasn't 1817 a proof-only year?

It doesn't. Since they can't deliver good title they would have to return the money if it was returned as a counterfeit. And if they were notified that it was fake and proceeded to sell it anyway, they could be held liable for charges under the HPA, if someone was willing to press the charges.
