Well Team, I was there when it opened and after walking around a bit and talking to a few Club Members whom I recognized, I found a decent CBH (F-12ish), 1821 O-102 which also happens to be one I needed. I picked it up for $60 which was comparable to a good deal on Ebay and I didn't have to wait on the delivery. Here are a few pictures. As you can see the crowd was light to begin with then it really started getting packed and I made my way outside and talked to a buddy about rockhounding. While chatting an older gentleman overheard our conversation about agates and other collectable stones and joined in. He introduced himself, it was Alan Herbert -- Author, contributing editor of Numismatic News, and past ANA Governor. He was interested by my BCBHDC collection and story (yes, there was a computer with internet capabilities at hand) and wanted me to submit a little history about building it to him in the near future! Nerp, I'm not a seller, I'll stay on the "CHEAP" purchasing side of the house, LOL... The show is going on tomorrow as well, but I probably won't drive back into town, too far and besides they didn't have a lot of Bust Stuff. Mainly Gold, Modern coinage, Mint Sets, and Morgan Silver Dollars with LOTS of other stuff (arrowheads, roman???, marbles, rocks, etc...) Ben
Ben it looked like a great show and dont forget if you do write a piece we want to read it as well LOL I do like that bustie as well :smile What sort of prices do Morgans sell for at theses shows? I dont mean a graded or a rare one LOL just the run of the mill types in good condition.
The coins all seemed VASTLT over priced to me. Example, a roll of MS 1878-S Morgans was going for $5,000 and the singles in MS-63/4 condition were listed for $300 each in the booth I had the nerve to ask at, LOL. There was one fellow who was selling ancient Celtic/Roman (Broaches and Cloak Pins). Several pieces had been broken/snapped off with the other half missing. I tried to tell the vendor that this often was the result of an offering to a deceased loved one. Where the (obviously living) individual would break an item like this in two and throw 1/2 of it into a well or stream and keep the other half as a memento of the lost loved one. This guy looked at me like I was crazy, LOL alas... The other Draped and Capped Bust coinage (there was but a handful) was all well over price guide listings. One 1834 CBH (Large date, Small Lettering) in solid XF-45 condition was sold for $450 while I was sttting there. Heck, with a little looking I can find one on the net for $150 just about any day. Ben

I'm glad to see you had a good time, Some times it can be as fun talking about coins as it is buying. Nice pick up by the way. I'm kind of curios about the jem hunting. Is it something you do local? The kids and I have been watching Cash and treasures with kirstin Gum and it has been driving us crazy that none of the sites are close by!

Those photos suprized me. At the coin shows I go to there is no photographing of any kind allowed. If you meet someone and want your picture taken with them, outside you go. No photos allowed in the show. I found that out a long time ago when I thought it would be great to show people on the forum what our shows look like. As I pulled out a camera a security guard came up and said it I take a photo, I loose the camera. I even asked what about people with cell/camera phones. He said look around. No one is even daring to pick one up. Might be a local thing but I've noticed around where I live no photos are allowed in gun shows, knife shows, in banks. I found out about the banks the hard way also. One bank has a lot of historic looking art work and I pulled out a camera to photo some of it. Didn't know there were that many guads with guns in that bank. It would be interesting if others asked it photos were allowed in coin shows in thier areas. Glad you had a great time. Now when is your next coin show venture?
Carl: Sorry to hear about your photo experience. I do believe that is taking security too far. After all, they even let you take pictures in the casinos now. Better luck next time.
