Hi all, Trying to find some information (and hopefully identify) this coin. I believe it may be from the 1600s but am unsure. The seller also had a number of coins from Swedish Livonia by am unsure if they are related to this coin. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated! It looks like it has an “A” on one side? I thought I could also make out he lettering “Arch” on that side but could be mistaken. Thank you for reading!
Neat coin! I love medieval coins... Though just started collecting them. I would recommend taking it out of the plastic and doing your best to take better pictures. Also, size and weight are often helpful. Again, I'm a noob when it comes medieval coins and don't recognize it. But we have some real aces on here when it comes to these.
Looks like Gustavus Adophus is a good bet. This coin isn't quite right, but it must be in the ballpark. Good luck! Maybe best to check in the World Coins forum, as this is very modern for us.
This would make a lot of sense, given the other coins I picked up as well. However, the lettering is a bit off and there’s some kind of cross on the back. Will definitely look more into this possibility though, thank you! Funny thing is, I posted in World Coins and they sent me here.
Much better photos! I've been on here for sometime and still don't get that good of captures. I'm sure @seth77 or @TheRed (haha, redrazz meet thered) have an idea.
I'm afraid that the condition makes it hard to even make up any lettering. I don't recognize the type and if it's a 17th century schilling that is a bit too modern for my area of knowledge. Better preserved coins usually make for a better collecting experience, unless you're hunting for that incredible rarity that only a diehard specialist would appreciate under such condition. Sorry I couldn't help.
This is a schilling from Archbishopric of Riga, archbishop Thomas Schöning, minted between 1528 and 1539, most likely in Kokenhausen, nowadays Koknese, Latvia.
