I just found a 2018 post on the NGC forum where someone posted a coin with the same lines below in. Another poster had an identical coin with the same lines. Someone there found one on Etsy with the same markings.

Of course they did because it is a fake. And look at the hariline above the forehead...not the same. Sharp date and lettering but mushy face - fake. Rims - fake. Willing to bet the rim has a rough "cut and tear" look.
This was really an easy call here.

    They are always fake.
Millions of fakes, a handful of real. I don't know when the last 1943 copper was
    discovered, but it wasn't recently.

On your coin. Lincolns face is too fat. Doesn't look like the 1943 cent. At all.

I agree, fake, many minor details just off IMO. If any dealer says its real, tell your friend to offer it to him for $3000. The dealer will decline, so have your friend say how much then will you give me. Then the dealer will say " let me show it around first, or "of course, you have to get it graded first" Have your friend say " OK, I will just keep it and ask another dealer" and if the dealer doesn't leap over the counter top to grab him, you will know its fake and a bluffing dealer.

From your photos it looks like a pretty crude copy.

It's a fake and not a very good one. Letters are misshapen and uneven, surfaces just aren't right. Some of these can be deceptive but not this one.

andrew, what ever happened to the authentication of your friends coin? You never followed up after he/she brought it to the show the following weekend. Over four months ago ;)
