Copper Dime

    I was going thru bank rolls and found this dime. Anybody seen this before? Considered valuable?

    One pic shows it next to a normal dime.

    I'll just call it toning. No way it's copper.

    I was wondering if the outer cladding was missing and we're seeing more of the inner cheaper metals.

    The chance of missing both clad layers is nearly zero. The chance that it's a dime (our smallest current coin) struck on a cent planchet is also nearly zero (it would have to be struck out of collar or the planchet doesn't fit into the coining chamber and there's no evidence of it being a broadstrike).

    A side photo will show some evidence of reeding and of the copper core. A weight will confirm it's within spec for a clad dime.

    All that's left is environmental damage, politely called toning because it's not unpleasant.
