I've been working on completing my 7070 type set and started to build an ancestry set; a coin from ancestors birth years that includes children, siblings, parents, grand parents, ... I was curious to find out how many CT members have done this.
My 7070 raw coin album contains birth dates of my parents, wife and kids. I don't plan on taking it any further.
I am making as many as 32 sets for my grandchildren and great grandchildren. See them at this link: https://www.cointalk.com/posts/3585575/
I recall your post about what to do with your 70 year accumulation. I haven't kept up with your post so thanks for sharing the link. I only have one unmarried son with no grandkids so I only want to focus on one high end set. I've been thinking about designing a presentation case/folder to hold them. Right now I'm only considering slabs.
I think it is a good idea to tie your lifelong love to family forever. You know how many coins I have. You also know that selling them would be a task with little or no profit. Rather than have someone try to sort them later I thought about this project. It's a big job, but, I working with my coins and that is a good thing. Post some pictures as you make progress.
A 7070 Type Set Dansco Album... http://www.danscoalbumstore.com/type-major-coins-from-1800-dansco-album-7070-p-1994.html @wxcoin BTW: What does an ancestry set look like? I don't think I've ever heard or seen that before.
I have a completed set (no gold). You might be surprised, I bet you have more then half the coins in your collection already.
It will have a coin from the birth year of each family member. One could be very creative here; all one denomination, a different denomination for each generation, ... I think that would be the fun of it since you can personalize it any way you want.
Capitol plastic use to make a holder that you could put the child photo and proof set in it. Looked nice, I'll have ask them if they still have them. I have put together a birth year set P_D_S of my birth year. So this Christmas I will give each one of my 3 children a set. I'll just wrap them and hand them to them.
I'm talking about sets for 19 great grandchildren and 13 grandchildren. I have the coins in my accumulation. They will each get coins common to the last one hundred plus years. I will include several from late 1800's. coins from 100 to 120 years before they were born. Silver nickels, dimes and halves. For some reason I didn't accumulate a lot of silver quarters. The sets will include the birth year of their great grand parents, grand parents, parents and themselves. I will include special releases like the 2009 Lincoln Series and the Jefferson 2004, 2005 and 2006 Westward series. Plus I will cover the attempt to get the dollar coins into circulation. See my posting for an idea of how it is going. https://www.cointalk.com/posts/3585575/
@wxcoin, @dwhiz- Thanks for that! Like you say, you can be creative and use your imagination. I could see a nice framed display with a birth year coin and death year coin under an old classic black & white photo of a great grandparent or other family members.
