I just dropped in to say hi and show off my Judaeans

Greetings CoinTalk Ancients Forum friends.

It's been a while since I've posted anything so I thought I'd do so now. Running a church has been rather time consuming but I still browse coins online and update my wish list periodically. I'm still collecting Judaean coins although I have not added anything recently. I've sold off many of my non-Judaean coins so that I can concentrate on the areas that are of intense interest which is anything with a David Hendin classification number.

Awesome digital display, I had been wondering where you went so it's good to see that you're still at it, hopefully narrowing your focus proves fruitful and satisfying!

I was wondering why you mix BC/BCE and CE/AD? Apparently dabbling with the secular notations to avoid naming the Lord won't appease rabblerousers like green18 so you should just go all in!

 

I think BCE and CE should be used, and I'm a believer. Simply put, it makes more sense anyway as we now know that Jesus was never born on 1CE, but probably around 4-8 BCE.

I should also add that BCE and CE have been around since the 18th Century, but never gained wide popularity until recent times. But there were historians and others using those terms long ago...and society did not collapse because of it. At any rate, BCE, and CE, are now the accepted ways to list dates amongst history professionals, and just like you wouldn't use outdated jargon in any other field, why not use the current accepted jargon in this academic field?

Besides, you think God really cares whether you use BCE or BC, or CE instead of AD? Man invented both labels (they are nowhere in any religious text), so they belong to the world of man, and not the supernatural or religious realm.

I grew up using BC/AD and am not a believer but will stubbornly continue to do so. It's a long standing cultural convention that I'm not about to surrender Edited Political Discussion That's why not.

Well, considering half the blood pulsing through my veins is of Catalan origin, I definitely have some French ancestry in me. So surrender to the new term came naturally...as much as surrender in general was a natural sport to a good portion of my ancestors. Wouldn't want to let my forefathers down.

I've never seen any sense or use for the new terminology. After all its still the same system no matter what you call it. Besides, just what exactly makes it a 'common era'? I am aware of the origins (it was created by a monk and was still based on Christ, no matter what one thinks of that). In modern times it has been appropriated (culturally??) by political correctness, something which I certainly do not adhere to.
