    Hey folks,
Looking for some input on the grade of this raw CC Morgan. My assessment courtesy of Photograde would put it at about VG10/F12
Not sure what is going on with the cheek. Acetone might remedy it.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Looks like damage by some chemical to the cheek. VG details.

Here's a thought...it kinda looks like there is a layer town off on the cheek revealing a sublayer below...could this be a clad counterfeit?

    Acetone helped out a bit.

It is part of a smallish estate collection that was brought to me to purchase. I have not purchased anything yet but likely will. It was a lot of US silver in old circulated condition.

Maybe residu from an old plastic 2x2. It went away immediately in acetone.

Probably a Fine on a good day, but the way that cheek looks, it's not a coin many would love.

It still wouldn't be "clad" even if it was a counterfeit. As that sandwich process is probably more difficult to make.
I would guess there was a substance on the cheek and someone used a strong abrasive many years ago to remove it , and removed a deep layer of surface patina and metal.
F Details seems right. It is a rare coin/ semi key date.

VG10. Not sure it would grade due to the mess with the cheek and the bites taken out of the obverse rim at 5-6:00

physics-fan3.14 You got any more of them.... prooflikes?

The cheek probably spent a long time in contact with something, hence it toned differently than the rest of the coin. It is unattractive, but not something that would keep it from grading. Acetone seems to have removed whatever residue was there.
