1981D Lincoln Cent: PMD or Mint Error?

    The reverse looks like damage, but I have no idea what caused the mark on the obverse. If it is damage, why can we still see that part of the "R" raised? And, what are the other marks on the rim.

    What do you think @paddyman98 ? @Fred Weinberg?

    I see the letter A and part of the letter C also looks like impression of the grooves from a Quarter planchet that might be why this happened. Looks like the letters came from the word america from the other side of the coin it might be a die clash. Look at that mintmark might be D/D mintmark? Great looking error coin.

    The reverse mark was caused by the obverse getting smashed by (what looks to have been) a quarter. The lines that go thru the groove are from the reeding on the edge of a quarter. This is all just what it looks like to me anyways
