As most of you know, 1982 was the year the US Mint went from stamping cents made of mostly copper, to cents made of mostly zinc.

I think many have heard rumors of a 1982-D small date copper cent being struck in error.

Does anyone know for sure if the 1982-D small date copper cent exists? I have not found any certified examples being sold, however, while shopping online, I see dozens of them for sale, from different sellers, all with a rating score of zero! (Meaning they have never sold anything on a particular site before.).

I highly suspect the ones online are either counterfeit, or misrepresented. They all mention the weight of their rare cents as 3.11 grams, and the pictures they are posting show either a small date coin, or are too out of focus to tell. I have not seen any slabbed examples being sold online.

Anyway, I was wondering if any of the folks here on coin talk know if this cent is confirmed as being out there somewhere, and if so, what the approximate cost for one would be. Specifically I am wondering if there are any slabbed examples of a 1982-D small date copper cent. I only saw one example online where a guy stated that he found one, and authenticated it himself....Lol....he is not a professional grader.

If you know if this coin truely exists, please share it with me.

In the meantime, a little friendly advice for you all would be to stay away from those being sold online, unless they are being sold by an experienced seller, and are certified as authentic.

Happy hunting folks! Good luck to all!

2 are known to exist, you have to look it up they were sold at high end auctions. and were certified authentic. the ones you see online are not authentic. they would not sell that coin without a team of experts, its certainly 6 or 7 figures to purchase at auction. its not the type of coin you list online.
