One of the things newbies should learn is that for most error coins, grade is less important than overall eye appeal. This one has a nice, full, complete, non-corrupted date. Only an AU55, but is,better than an MS grade with the date partially missing. Struck on a silver 10 cent planchet. Overall, this one is a real beauty. Nice, even color with mild silver toning to help accent details.
I don’t own the coin, so I don’t know for sure, but the weight is exactly how you know it was struck on a dime planchet. It should weigh exactly 2.5g
Yes I understand that, that's why I wanted to compare the actual weight. To see if it was 2.5 or less or whatever.
If it is really struck on a dime planchet, I'm surprised at how well struck up the details in the bust and Monticello are. Those require a lot of metal and the dime planchet would be considerably thinner than the nickel planchets the press would be set for.
