I'm having a devil of a time trying to ID this small Greek bronze (14 mm, 3.8g). Here's a photo: Is it possible that this coin is a mule? The obverse looks like it might be Apollo, like on the obverse of this coin: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1592290 The reverse looks like it might be similar to this coin, which is 20 mm, accidentally stamped onto the reverse of a 14 mm flan: https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=4894879 Both were minted during the same time period (260-215 B.C.). Any thoughts?
Can you read any letters beyond WN? Many similar coins from Kolophon, but there aren't enough letters to check for magistrate names. https://www.acsearch.info/search.html?id=1027816
I didn't realize there were so many Apollo/lyre possibilities. I'll keep poking around. Thanks for the leads. Bottiaiai looks particular promising.
What are you looking for? A die match? You must then find the reference book of Psoma in case it is there. Otherwise there is no chance that your coin is not from Bottiaiai
Yes, I agree. I was hoping it was from some place that I could pronounce, but I am convinced you are correct and that the coin is from Bottiaiai. Thank you for your help.
It's pronounced votiea and ethnic says votieon (of the people of votiea). I believe its quite nice and much rarer than the olynthian closely related coins
