It was altered after it left the US Mint. Someone ground down the reverse side. They used a special machine to make that circular pattern. I believe it is called a lathe machine.

Could even be 1 half a magic trick. It was turned into a shell to cover another part that attaches to it. The other part came off and was lost.

    Not a mint error.

(please try to create your threads over at the Error Coins forum)

    Peace :angelic:

Since this is not an error coin, I see no reason it needed to be on the Errors forum.

Then again, maybe you wanted to know if it was an error, so in that case, yeah, OK. Whatever. I think Coin Chat is OK for pretty much all general coin-related topics, so it is fine here.

@paddyman98 is of course right about the ID- this piece was altered on a lathe or similar instrument, for unknown reasons, but I'd say the "magic trick coin" theory is very plausible.

So yes, it is a post-mint altered coin and not a mint error.

I should explain, very simple.. Because when I check CoinTalk on my Cellphone early in the morning or anytime during the day I get a notification (Alert) that there is a new thread on the Error Coins forum which I follow and tend to answer to the best of my knowledge. I really don't follow the other forums. Every once in a while I check the New Posts tab and see threads such as this one.

Lol yeah someone has already informed me of this. I'm sure you were aware of that before posting your comment though

That's fine, and it's good that you're watching the Errors forum, but it doesn't mean that everyone has to post there just so you can see something. ;)

(It's good that you're there as a resident expert on that forum, though. That sort of stuff is not my field.)

    Thanks for understanding..

Hey, funny thought. Why do I get reprimanded but the mods allow that obvious Troll called Bobs Tavern Arm to continue with his nonsense?

    I'm just saying.. o_O

There are some things that go on behind the scenes that you are not aware of. And some situations take time to be resolved, is all I can say. And not all can be resolved the way everybody wants them to be.

    How's that for oblique talk?

Thanks.. I least we know you are aware of the situation. What does oblique mean? :wacky:

Oh- and I wouldn't say you were "reprimanded". You just come off as a bit bossy sometimes, is all. I know you don't mean anything by it, and most of your suggestions are solid.

I'm not a coffee drinker, but I sustain myself with iced Earl Grey tea all night long, so I know about caffeine dependency. :)
