1999 P Jefferson Nickel: Mechanical Doubling?

    Is this mechanical doubling and PMD or something else?

    This is one I know about because no one at coin shops knew what caused it so I found why it has all those little scratches. It is caused by sandpaper they used to clean the dies. Some of it comes off on the die and when they start it back up that is where you get the scratches.

    Look at this picture of the mintmark... I count 4 layers! Wouldn’t this be doubled die?

    Worn die, diedeterioration, Mechanical doubling, MD (no value added) and I don't think they use sand paper. PMD.
