Here is Parthian Drachm I recently picked up. Bought as Vologases III, @Bob L. has mentioned to me recent research indicates it is Pacorus I. CNG and others label this type as either figure. Vologases III (Sellwood; Shore)/Pacorus I (Assar) AR Drachm O: Diademed bust left, wearing longer pointed, beard. R: rcher (Arsakes I) seated right on throne, holding bow; monogram below bow. Ekbatana mint 3.75g 20mm Sellwood 78.5 (Vologases III); Sunrise –; Shore 415 (Vologases III).
@Mat Lovely coin . I love the patina on it. I have 2 Vologases III one drachm and one tetra drachm Does any one know what is wrong on the tetra in front of bust? How did this happen? is this normal?
I encounter this coin in Parthia.com introduced as fake. However the style surface etc look perfectly legit to me. I am curious to why it was condemned? I like to learn if I am not seeing something that a Parthian expert collector would notice? Please let me know http://parthia.com/parthia_forgery.htm#Forgery_1
Oh man, I don't know. It says it is a struck fake using "electro-erosion copied dies", I'm not sure what that means. I have a feeling it would be pretty difficult to detect this as a fake. Even the flan looks right. I assume it is silver also? That's a tough one. Anyway, that's a cool new coin @Mat ! I don't have a coin of Vologases III, but I have a couple from V man the 4th, here is a drachm. Parthian Kingdom. Vologases IV. A.D. 147-191. R: Archer enthroned right, pellet above arm, monogram below bow, single line Aramaic (top) , followed by a six-line stylised "Greek" inscription. Ecbatana .mint. 3.5 g, 19 mm.
