1973 S lincoln penny

I found this 1973 S penny today. It's pretty nice. It has one blemish on the head of Lincoln! About center. Should I still send it in for grading. Any comments welcome. It is nicer in life then photo.

Your photos are too bright and out of focus for a proper evaluation. IMO if a modern Lincoln cent can't get a minimum grade of MS67 it's not worth the cost of getting it graded. If you say there's a blemish on the head, I doubt it would grade MS67.

 

That's a keeper for sure, but not worth to be graded by a TPG.

 

it would make a good start to filling a cent folder...

 

It's not worth much more than .01 cent.
It's not going to be MS 68 it's not going to be worth $30-$50 to
get a coin graded that's worth 1 cent.
If you like this coin save it in a 2x2 coin flip.

 

It's a nice find for the age and condition but it's not worth much over face value. A great coin for a type set.

 

You know that since you found it in circulation that it's not going to achieve any MS grading. At best it might be AU which will land you at $.01 value. Although it's nice to add to a penny cent folder, or placing it in a 2x2 coin flip holder, I wouldn't count on it ever receiving a value more than that.

I have many a coin that i found in circulation that would grade MS.
It's a great thought but not actually true.

 

Really? were you aware that Mint State needs to be uncirculated in order to qualify to become a MS grade? Here's a chart you might want to refer to as a reference guide. Sorry, but it is a physical impossibility to even find 1 coin that qualifies to be mint state in circulation. AU-59 is the highest grade you will ever find in circulation.

Select or Choice Uncirculated MS-63
Choice Uncirculated MS-63, MS-64
Gem Uncirculated MS-65, MS-66
Superb Gem Uncirculated MS-67, MS-68, MS-69

I know it can be confusing to most.
MS is a condition and not related to how you got the coin. I know it would be hard to relate but it is true.

 

You can get MS coins in circulation. When the new quarters come out, I get some rolls from my credit union, they have been circulated and are mixed in with other quarters, but some are still in MS grade.
There's really no AU 59 grade anymore.

 

I'd greatly appreciate if you'd explain to me and the audience on how you can find an uncirculated coin in circulation.

 

It sure looks like minor signs of circulation on the reverse, too unfocused but sure obverse is similar. The old term "Slider" comes back to me~ circulated but slides by as MS when selling it.

 

I already did. When I am looking for the latest ATB quarters, I go to my credit union and I get rolls of quarters. Some of the new coins are mixed in there. At times I have gotten full rolls of brand new coins. There might only be 1 or 2 acceptable ones in there, but they are MS. Yes they are lightly circulated and yes some of them are 100% MS grade coins. Full luster only 1 or 2 coin nicks. No scratches, no gouges etc. They are in the MS 64 65 area. Have you seen any MS 60 MS 61 coins? They look like crap and I only keep the very best for my quarter album. They are MS coins and they were found in circulation. Go to your local bank. Buy a new roll of any denomination. Take it home and crack the roll open. The entire roll is in mint state and yet there are considered circulated. It's easy.

Not a great photo. Let me try again. The Effigy Mounds may not be MS.
Once in a while I have trouble getting an acceptable coin, and I have been
lucky and been able to replace coins at a later date that is in better condition.
